Back in 2014, Play'n GO released a gem-matching grid slot called Gemix. It gave players the chance to explore three different worlds, each of which was associated with a different guardian character. That original slot was a big hit, and its fans will therefore be very pleased to hear that the same developer has just released a long-awaited sequel: Gemix 2. This gives players a whole new world to explore, improved features and even greater winning potential, with a top prize of 7,500 times your stake.
Gemix 2: Format and Gameplay
Like its predecessor, Gemix 2 is a 7x7 grid slot that is presented against the lavishly illustrated (and very nicely animated) background showing the world you're currently playing in. Symbols on the grid are gems of various shapes and colours, and prizes are landed for matching clusters or five or more.
When you have achieved a winning cluster, the details of that win will be shown in a rectangular window to the left of the grid. The winning symbols will then be removed, and other symbols will drop down to replace them, giving you another chance of winning.
The original and much-loved Gemix soundtrack is retained in this game to accompany you on your noble quest, and the audio effects are very impressive. Keep your ears open for the character voices, as those are particularly well-acted.
Crystal Charge Feature
To the right of the grid is a blue Crystal Charge orb. This will charge up with winning symbols, and when you have collected 25 or more symbols, you will activate one of four Crystal Charge features, as described below.
Nova Blast will cause one symbol on the grid to explode. As it does so, it will transform adjacent symbols - and itself - into a cluster of matching symbols.
Crystal Warp will select one symbol on the grid and 'warp' all occurrences of that symbol, turning them into a different one that should help you win.
Light Beam will shoot a ray of light in both vertical and horizontal directions from a symbol. All symbols in the path of the light beams will be transformed.
Chain Lightning will shoot electrical arcs from two corner symbols. All symbols touched by those arcs will transform to match the corner symbols.
A Super Charge can be unleashed by collecting 50 winning symbols. This will activate all four Crystal Charge features simultaneously and also give you a 2x multiplier. You can retrigger with another 50 symbols, and that will increase the multiplier by 2, up to a maximum of 20x.
Below the Crystal Charge orb you'll see a small representation of the slot grid, and it will show a 'world pattern'. The same pattern is also highlighted in yellow on the grid itself. Your task in this game is to clear the pattern by winning in the highlighted cells. Do that twice, and you will be given a chance to win a World Bonus Prize Purse. A character called G-Nome will appear, and you'll be asked to pick one of his two pockets. One contains nothing, and the other contains a cash prize, so take your pick and think lucky thoughts!
Completing two world patterns also takes you into the next world. There are four worlds in total, and each one has its own guardian who can show up to help you out from time to time, as follows:
Sky Knight is the new character in Geminix 2, and he will add up to two Mega Wild symbols to the grid. These are 2x2 in size, but they behave as if they are single symbols.
The Miner will cause wild symbols to fall into the grid from above. Up to 10 wild symbols can drop into random positions.
The Princess will select an edge symbol and transform it into a wild. That wild will then spread to adjacent symbols until it reaches another edge symbol.
The Wizard will add up to 5 sticky wild symbols to the grid. As their name suggests, these don't drop down the grid as symbols are removed but stick in place for one round or until the Crystal Charge feature is triggered.
Although each of these guardian characters is associated with their own world, they can also show up in other words. However, the guardian of the world you are currently in will always show up first.
'We're excited to expand the GEMiX World – and we know players will be excited too,' said Charlotte Miliziano, who is Head of Games at Play'n GO. 'The potential to introduce new characters and worlds is limitless. It allows us to play with new features and develop innovative ways to immerse players in the world of GEMiX!'
