Viking Runes: Format

The Viking Runes game was developed in partnership with TruLab under the YG Masters program. Released just last week, it’s a 9 by 9 grid slot which is set into a giant rock carving. The night sky in the background gives just a hint of the Northern Lights, and the snow on the ground makes it clear that it’s a pretty cold one.

There are nine different symbols that can appear on the grid. Three plain-looking runes serve as lower-value symbols, four coloured runes are of medium value, and two jewelled runes are of high value.

To the right of the grid is a column of five blocks. The bottom four blocks each shows a different Lightning Wild symbol, and at the top of the column is a Free Spins block. To the left of the grid stands a Viking warrior holding a somewhat oversized warhammer.

Viking Runes: Gameplay

Your task when playing this game is to match clusters of identical runes. A cluster of six or more will award a cash prize. The size of the prize will be determined by the number of runes in the cluster and the type of runes involved. Visit the paytable in the game for a complete list of all possible payouts.

When a winning cluster has been achieved, all runes in that cluster will disappear, and those positioned above will drop down into the newly vacated spaces. More runes will then drop into the grid from above. All of this can create even more winning clusters, so it is perfectly possible to experience sequences of wins from a single ‘spin’.

Lightning Wilds

Every time you get a winning cascade, a Lightning Wild on the column to the right will be added to the grid. The first Lightning Wild to be added will be the bottom one, then the next highest, and so on, up the column. Each Lightning Wild is added to the grid in a random position and remains in play for the duration of the cascade sequence. However, the position of each wild will change after every cascade. When the cascade sequence ends, the column will be reset in readiness for the next one.

Random Features

There are three features that can be randomly triggered as you play this game. Only one can be triggered during any given spin. The features are:

Runic Shuffle: The Viking warrior will use his hammer to rearrange the symbols on the grid and guarantee a winning cluster.

Viking Sorcery: This feature will add anything from three to nine wild symbols to the grid, thereby improving your chance of landing a win.

Spell of Ancestors: Here, the spirits of Viking warriors of old will transform all lower-value symbols into one giant symbol.

Free Spins Feature

We have said how a cascade activates Lightning Wild symbols on the column to the right, from the bottom to the top. Should you get five cascades in a sequence, the top block of the column will also be activated, triggering a Free Spins round. Here you’ll get six free spins with all four Lightning Wilds active. However, the Lightning Wilds will now also increase an active multiplier by +1 every time they form part of a winning cluster.
