Big Bad Wolf is one of the most popular slots that Quickspin has ever released. It was launched way back in 2012, and it is still a big hit everywhere. Maybe that’s why the company decided to brighten the festive season of 2020 by releasing a fresh version called Big Bad Wolf Christmas Special. It has all the great features of the original but is now garbed in what Quickspin refers to as ‘Christmas clothing.’ If you’ve ever wanted to see the wolf wearing a Santa hat, now’s your chance!
The Festive Scene
Those of you who have played the original Big Bad Wolf game (and if you haven’t, you really should) will recognize that the scene portrayed here is the same but different. The game itself still has five reels, three rows and 25 pay lines, and it still takes place in the house of the three little pigs. The difference here is that it isn’t a nice summer’s day, but the middle of winter.
That being the case, you’ll see snow and lots of it. The roof of the house is covered with the white stuff, and even more, will continue to fall from the sky as you play. The trees which flank the house have been decorated with fairy lights, and inside the house, you’ll see even more festive decor.
The game symbols have also been exposed to the cooler temperatures. The 10, J, Q, K and A symbols are all snow-capped, the wild has a Christmas bow attached to it, the three little pigs are wearing their warmest hats, and the wolf has apparently helped himself to Santa’s wardrobe. As for the audio, you can expect to play along to the relaxing melody of Jingle Bells.
When you land a win on any line, the symbols will be removed from the house, and new symbols will drop down to take their place. This makes it possible to win several times from a single spin, and that brings us nicely to the first feature we need to mention…
Pigs Turn Wild Feature
Above the fourth and fifth reels, you will see pictures of the three little pigs. Each pig image has two circle-shaped slots beneath it. Whenever you land a win, the leftmost empty circle will light up. Land another win from the resulting cascade, and the next circle will light up. At that stage, the first pig will serve as a wild.
Continue to get cascading wins, and the second and third pig will also start serving as wilds. Add a dash of Christmas luck, and this can help you to achieve some lengthy sequences of cascade wins - and rack up plenty of cash prizes in the process!
When the cascading wins come to an end, all six lights will be reset so that you can start collecting them all over again.
Blowing Down the House Feature
The wolf serves as a wild symbol. When three appear on the reels at the same time, you will trigger his Blowing Down the House feature. He will then shift to the left of the reels, and you will earn 10 free spins.
This feature plays in a similar way to the main game, but a special moon symbol can also appear on the fifth reel. Every time it does so, it will be collected. If you manage to collect three moon symbols, the wolf will blow down the wooden house of the pigs, and you’ll receive two more free spins.
The action will then shift to their brick house, but the wolf can also blow that one down when six moon symbols have been collected. In addition, you’ll get another two free spins, and all prizes won from that point on will be increased by a x2 multiplier.
As if all of that isn’t enough, landing another three wolf scatters on the reels at any point will give you an instant cash prize worth three times your bet, as well as an extra ten free spins.
A Christmas Special Worth Waiting For!
Fans of the original Big Bad Wolf game have waited for years to see if their favourite storybook characters would ever return in a new adventure. While the Big Bad Wolf Christmas Special doesn’t offer anything new in terms of format or features, it reimagines the classic slot through tinsel-coloured spectacles. The result is a game that feels fresh and new, even though it should be perfectly familiar to anyone who has played the original edition.
What does set this version apart from its predecessor in a tangible way is the prize potential. Big Bad Wolf boasted a top prize of 600 times your stake, but Big Bad Wolf Christmas Special gives you the chance to win over twice that sum, with a max win of 1,225 times your bet being up for grabs. If that doesn’t get you Ho-Ho-Ho-ing, then nothing will!
