Have you ever watched a movie about a bank heist and imagined what it would be like to crack open a vault and help yourself to the contents? The Vault is a new slot from Stockholm-based development company Snowborn Games which allows you to vicariously experience that thrill without breaking any actual laws.

About The Vault

Developed exclusively for Microgaming, this is a hi-tech game in which you follow the activities of an expert criminal called Jewel, who has the goal of gaining entrance to a sophisticated vault. The game has five reels, three rows and twenty pay lines, and takes place under cover of darkness in a long hall which is strewn with precisely positioned laser beams. At the end of the hall is the vault that needs to be reached, and hopefully opened.

This game has a great atmosphere, with the five reels being framed by a green laser beam that contrasts very nicely with the darker background. Symbols on the reels include simple metallic versions of the playing card ranks 10, J, Q, K and A, a couple of gold bars, a green gem, a diamond brooch and a huge pink diamond. A gold-framed W serves as both a paying symbol and a wild, and an electronic display serves as the bonus symbol.

The soundtrack in The Vault is more nebulous than melodic, but it does a very good job at creating an almost tangible sense of suspense. Percussive beats and rolls are employed to highlight in-game incidents, and even the celebratory sound effects that accompany wins are perfectly in keeping with the dark, hi-tech setting.

The Vault Respin Feature

Whenever you get two or more bonus symbols on the reels at the same time, you will trigger a Respin feature. The bonus symbols will stick in place and the remaining symbols will spin again. Should you get one or more bonus symbols on the reels, those too will stick and another respin will be awarded. The respins will continue in this manner until no more bonus symbols appear or until there is a bonus symbol on all five reels, in which case you will trigger the Vault Bonus feature.

The Vault Bonus Feature

You will notice that there is a padlock symbol at the head of each reel. The padlock is locked by default, but when a bonus symbol appears it will unlock the padlock for that particular reel. To trigger the Vault Bonus feature you will need to unlock all five reels. That can either be done by getting very lucky and spinning five bonus symbols onto the reels in a single spin, or by getting five bonus symbols via the Vault Respin feature discussed a moment ago.

However this feature is triggered, you will receive ten free spins, with all wins being increased by a 3x multiplier. The middle reel will also be wild throughout, making it even easier to land winning combinations. In addition, there are two special symbols in play during free spins, as follows:

• A yellow 1+ symbol will give you one extra spin every time it appears
• A green 1x symbol will add a 1x multiplier every time it appears

It is therefore possible, if your luck permits, for you to enjoy more than ten free spins and to have your wins multiplied by even more than 3x.
